East Coast Computer Algebra Day 2012

Saturday, May 12, 2012

Oakland University, Rochester, Michigan, USA

About

The East Coast Computer Algebra Day (ECCAD) is a one-day meeting for those interested in computer algebra and symbolic mathematical computation. It provides opportunities to learn and to share new results and current work in progress. The schedule includes prominent invited speakers along with contributed posters and software demonstrations. Plenty of time is allowed for unstructured interaction among the participants. Researchers, teachers, students, and users of computer algebra are all welcome!

This year ECCAD will be held back-to-back with the Michigan Computational Algebraic Geometry (MCAG) 2012 meeting, held May 12-13, 2012. MCAG 2012 is a workshop organized by Prof. Tony Shaska (Oakland University) and Prof. Dan Erman (University of Michigan) featuring a single track of lectures on a range of topics in Algebraic Geometry. Both ECCAD and MCAG have no registration fee and will be held in the same location on the campus of Oakland University.

Invited Speakers

Registration

ECCAD 2012 is free to attend, but we request that all attendees (even local ones) please register as soon as possible so that we can arrange refreshments and facilities. To register please fill out the form at the bottom of this page.

Conference Dinner

There will be a conference dinner at Meadow Brook Hall. Meadow Brook Hall is a historic estate on the campus of Oakland University that was recently designated as a national historic landmark. This is a combined dinner for both ECCAD and MCAG (Michigan Computational Algebraic Geometry). The majority of the costs are covered by the organizers but in order to offset these costs a $20 fee will be charged for tickets. The dinner menu will include three courses and wine service. For planning purposes we need a final head count by Monday, April 30. Dinner registration is now closed and the reservation has been made. If you did not register and would like to check about extra spots, email Dan Steffy at steffy@oakland.edu.

Posters and Software Demonstrations

Proposals are invited for poster presentations and software demonstrations on any topic related to computer algebra. Abstracts can be submitted through the abstract submission form at the bottom of this page. Abstracts received by May 1st will appear in the conference program. Poster pre-registration now closed.

Travel Support

The National Security Agency has generously provided funds to support travel expenses for some participants. Travel support is available for US Citizens and permanent residents only. Any participant can request travel support but priority will be given to graduate students and post-docs making poster or software demonstrations. Please fill out the financial support request form below if you would like to be considered for travel support, please complete this form by [March 15] March 27 to receive full consideration. Any questions regarding financial support should be directed to Prof. Tony Shaska at shaska@oakland.edu.

Accommodation

There is no "official" ECCAD 2012 hotel. A number of reasonably priced hotels are in the Oakland University area, many of which have an "Oakland University rate" (just ask). Some possibilities are:
